Jago beats Olympic gold medallist

Sir Steve Redgrave may have won five Olympic gold medals at rowing, but when it came to skiing he proved no match for Jago Brown of Glasgow who won the men's giant slalom competition in this year's Sunday Times Crystal Ski Challenge. However, the Redgrave's family name was upheld by his daughter Natalie who won the women's title.

Jago Brown (32), whizzed down the slopes at Sauze d'Oulx, Italy, in a record time to take the individual title at the Ski Challenge last Friday. But not content with that victory, he went on to take the dual slalom title and was member of the fasted team as well. In the speed competition the winner was Simon Littlewood (31) of London.

In the women's races, Deborah Friswell of Southend and a member of last year's winning team, won the speed competition and the dual competition.

"It's brilliant that I've won and next year I will be beating my dad," said Miss Redgrave (15), who won the giant slalom race women's individual title.

They all booked a seven-night stay in the Italian ski resort, which included professional coaching and video feedback, skidooing, après-ski events, Gala Dinner, Sir Steve's VIP party and the chance to ski against (and beat!) Britain's most successful Olympian.

Teams from all over the UK participated in the fun including The Aviators, the Birthday Boys, The 45'ers, the Flying Friswell's, the Trainers and more.
