Cliched though it may sound, the Papagayo Arena Resort really does have something for everyone. Vast and impressive in equal measure, you'll be struck by the quality on offer from the moment you enter the reception area. Lofty, marble laden and finished with comfortable wicker furniture, it oozes cool and calm. And remaining inside, your room retains that airy feel and ensures you've an oasis in which to retire to at the end of the day.

Lovely though the inside of this place is, it's in moving outside that the stakes are really upped. In fact, it's perhaps the pool area that really steals the show. Three huge pools await, all flanked by sunbeds and parasols, and all looking out to sea. And on that note, you're also on the seafront – so if you fancy a change of scenery whilst remaining entirely lazy, you'll be on the sand in no time at all.

When it comes to something a little more active than simply lounging your days away, there's an ample amount of activities – the likes of tennis, aerobics, a gym and minigolf are complemented by saunas and Turkish and whirlpool baths. Meanwhile, if you have little ones in tow, they'll be kept well and truly amused with two of their own pools, not to mention a hotel-run club, play area and entertainment programme.

And when mealtimes finally roll around, the Papagayo continues in much the same vein – offering something to suit your every fancy. There's the buffet option, in addition to a pizzeria, French and oriental a la cartes and a snack grill. After that, when you're finally ready to wind it all down (or crank it all up) for the evening, the choice and variety continues unabated in the form of the nightly entertainment. Numerous bars, daily shows and entry to the disco all add up to the choice you'll have come to expect from the Papagayo Arena Resort.
